Nittya Ranjan Biswas is a Bangladeshi fisheries expert specializing in fish quarantine, food safety, and aquaculture management.
With over 35 years of service at the Department of Fisheries, he has held key positions, including principal scientific officer (director) and additional director general, where he led regulatory development such as the Fish Quarantine Act (2018) and the Fish & Fish Product (Inspection and Quality Control) Act (2020).
He has also gained experience as a food safety specialist under the Sustainable Coastal & Marine Fisheries Project and provides expert advisory support to the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority. His expertise spans fish quarantine regulations, aquaculture farm management, fish disease control, and international food safety compliance.
An alumnus of the University of Stirling, UK, Mr. Biswas has contributed extensively to national policy, international negotiations, and capacity-building initiatives. He is also an active member of professional societies and has authored numerous research and policy papers on fisheries management and food safety.
