Dr. Md. Shafi Uddin is a Bangladeshi agricultural expert with over 32 years of service in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), where he held senior roles, including Director of the Plant Quarantine Wing and National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) representative under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
He holds a PhD in Entomology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University and has led national programs on plant health policy, pest risk management, and compliance with international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures, representing Bangladesh at global forums such as FAO’s Commission on Phytosanitary Measures and the Asia-Pacific Plant Protection Commission.
Beyond regulatory leadership, he has served as principal of agricultural training institutes in Cumilla and Rangamati, trained thousands of farmers and extension officers, published research and manuals on pest management and sustainable agriculture, and remains active as a member of professional bodies, including the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh.
