Sankaran Subramanian

Sankaran Subramanian is a premier laboratory quality management and accreditation expert with over five decades of experience in testing, calibration, and proficiency testing (PT). He possesses rare global authority in his field, having served as a member of the ISO Working Group 57 that legally revised the international ISO/IEC 17043 standard. His career bridges decades of public service with high-level international consulting for global bodies like UNIDO.

Mr. Subramanian spent 36 years within the laboratories of the Textiles Committee under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, retiring as Joint Director (Laboratories) in 2008. He subsequently worked for over six years as a quality and technical manager for a private testing-cum-calibration facility and is currently associated with the Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA). As an elite Lead Assessor for India's accreditation body (NABL), he has conducted more than 700 laboratory assessments across India, Sri Lanka, Jordan, and Bangladesh.

As a trusted UNIDO expert, he has traveled internationally to guide and prepare textile testing laboratories for formal accreditation in nations including Libya, Ghana, Nepal, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh. He is exceptionally skilled in implementing and teaching international standards, including ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17043, and ISO 17034. He has personally designed and run over 22 formal PT programs and trained assessors across more than 60 accredited laboratories globally. 

His technical expertise encompasses the chemical, analytical, and mechanical testing of textiles, backed by advanced specialized training across the USA, Singapore, Australia, France, Germany, and Italy. His testing competencies also extend to paper, plastics, leather, polymers, and wastewater. He holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree, which laid the technical foundation for his lifelong career in laboratory science and quality engineering.
